We have just a short announcement to make today concerning one of our deeply loved OC Online alumnae, Morgan Stickney (’16).
Morgan has been through a difficult past few years since graduation due to medical treatments, ultimately culminating in the amputation of one of her feet. As a swimmer, this was devastating, but she was able to courageously pivot in her sport and go on to win the 400 and 100 meter freestyle races at the US Paralympics Nationals.
Since then, however, she has received news that she will need to amputate her second foot. Her surgery is set for this fall, making her the world’s first bilateral Ewing amputee. You can read more about her journey in this New York Times Article.
While we would all be proud of Morgan simply for enduring—regardless of her attitude—it was striking to hear that when we reached out to see how she was doing, her response was simply: “God’s got this.”
Out of respect for her deeply trusting faith, we ask that you would honor her and join us in prayer:
Lord, we think together right now about Morgan. We pause as one in stillness to set ourselves in solidarity with her pain. It is hard to imagine Morgan’s loss, and so we ask that you, who know her best, would make your presence known to her. Wrap around her during this time and help her get from one day to the next. Provide doctors, friends, family, and strangers who can find ways to offer small breaks from her sadness and can listen carefully to her needs. Give those nearest to her wisdom and discernment. We pray together in your name with both lamentation and hope. Amen.
